James Barton Farris, Company H, 10th Tennessee Infantry

My name is Alfred Farris. my grandfarher James Barton Farris joined the 7th Alabama regiment company H at age 16. He later joined the 10th Tenn. company H.

He fought in the battles of Franklin and Nashville, and was captured on Hood’s retreat and taken (i think) to Rock Island ill and was then moved to another prison where he survived smallpox. i would like more information about his war and prison record.

One Response to James Barton Farris, Company H, 10th Tennessee Infantry

  1. Randy Burns says:

My ancestor in G co. 10th Tennessee was captured at Donelson and was sent to Camp Douglas for about six month and then exchanged at Vicksburg. He fought in several battles in Missippi and was sent to Georgia to fight at Chickamauga where the 10th had 67% casualties. Number six on the list for highest regimental casualties on the Confederate side during the war.
