Private Abraham Howell, Company A, 5th Mississippi Infantry

Pvt. Abraham Howell (24), Co. A (Red Rovers) 5th Mississippi Infantry. Out of (17) in his Co. He and one other man were the only ones not killed or captured. After the battle of Nashville He went back to his home in Monroe County Mis’sippi.

    That other soldier must be my great grandfather, Pvt. Thomas Wood; never wounded nor captured. He fought the entire war with Co. A of the 5th Mississippi. Thomas returned to Monroe County, then relocated to Pilots Knob (no longer existant), Arkansas, where he served many years as Justice of the Peace. He attended nearly every reunion, until his death in 1925.
