Francis M. Eddins, Company H, 17th Alabama lost his life at Franklin

My g-g-g-g Uncle was at Franklin, in the 17th Al Co H and is buried at McGavock; He was Francis M. Eddins (Canteys Brigade) I see that there is another decendant ( Croxton ) who has a relative from the 17th buried in McGavock also.

He had 2 brothers were also in the 17th, they were captured at the Battle of Atlanta and sent to Camp Douglas in late July 1864. Another, younger brother, my g-g-grandfather may have been with them, but we cannot find any records yet.

Just hearing from others who have relatives that fought on either side somehow makes me feel more connected with Francis; knowing he won’t be forgotten. I am researching where he actually fell, he was with Stewarts Corp/Canteys Brigade.

Keep up all the good work on Facebook and thanks for bringing Franklin to so the attention of so many people who might not know about it otherwise.

Editor:  The 17th Alabama lost nine men killed at Franklin.  Francis is buried in Section 69 (Alabama), Plot #28. He is buried very close to Croxton in the same unit, plot #26.
