Milton R. Scholes, Co I, 11th TN Infantry

My name is Eugene Summers, currently residing in Madisonville, KY. My great, great Grandfather Milton R. Scholes was at Franklin. He was a private with the 11th Tennessee Infantry Regiment, Company I.

Born in Humphreys County, Tennessee March 7, 1844. Pension and muster records show he enlisted December 9, 1862 at Readyville, Tennessee, at age 19 on roll dated May 6, 1863 at Shelbyville. Wounded in the leg at Missionary Ridge, Tennessee November 25, 1863. After the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee November 30, 1864 allowed to return home to Humphreys County to collect shoes. Was cut off from the army after the Battle of Nashville December 15-16, 1864 and unable to return. Surrendered at Johnsonville, Tennessee May 22, 1865. Took oath May 24, 1865. Complexion fair, hair dark, eyes hazel, height 5′ 9″. Died in September 1938.

Milton was the last surviving Confederate soldier of Humphreys Co. Tennessee when he died at the rip old age of 94.
