Corpl John J. Sellars, Company D, 49th Tennessee

I have one ancestor who fought and was wounded at the Battle of Franklin. His name was Corporal John J. Sellars. He was in Co. D, 49th TN Infantry from Dickson, TN. He was  wounded and captured, at the Battle of Franklin, then sent to Ft. Douglas ( this was his second trip there, he was sent from Ft, Donelson).

He enlisted on Dec. 10, 1861 at the courthouse in Charlotte. He was born June 16, 1837 in Dickson and died July 5, 1884. in Randolph County, Arkansas. His wife’s name was Harriet P. Carr. She returned to Dickson and later moved to Nashville.

He was my ggggreat-uncle. He lived in the Spencer Mill area of Dickson County.

Please check out the book “Cry Havoc” author Dr. Wallace Cross. It is a history of the 49th TN INF. I wrote the biographies for the book.
